ANALYSIS OF SARCASM IN TIM MILLER'S FILM “DEADPOOL” AND ITS APPLICATION IN VOCABULARY TEACHING
Qualitative Research
According to Richard Barsam and Dave Monahan (2010) Film originates from celluloid strips on which the images that form moving images were initially captured, cut, and projected. In simple terms, the term “film” is short for a moving picture.

According to Francesco Barbieri, Horacio Saggion and Francesco Ronzano (2014) Sarcasm is a form of communication where the literal meaning and the intent conflict. The use of sarcasm is often intended to convey a negative message by using words that appear to be positive.

According to Nunan (1991) quoted from research by Fathul Munir (2016), vocabulary is not just a list of words in the target language. Based on this definition, it can be concluded that vocabulary has a close relationship with grammar. The lexical system of most languages can be divided into grammatical word categories.
The first related research is from Laela Putriana Melawati (2021) entitled “AN ANALYSIS OF SARCASM IN MARVEL'S MOVIE "VENOM"”. This research was conducted to analyze what type of sarcasm is used in the film as well as the context of the utterance and how the interlocutor responds to the sarcastic utterance.
The second related research is from Krašek and Vjera (2021) entitled “A Pragmatic Analysis of the Expression and Interpretation of Sarcasm in Chats on Facebook Messenger”. This thesis analyzes the translation of potential sarcastic cues from face-to-face communication to computer communication using the example of conversations on Facebook Messenger.
The third related research is from Rahmawati Sukmaningrum (2016) entitled “The Analysis of Translation Techniques of Irony and Sarcasm in the Novel Entitled The Sign Of The Four”. This research aims to identify the translation techniques used in translating expressions of irony and sarcasm in the novel The Sign of the Four and to determine the quality of the translation that emerges as a result of the application of these translation techniques.
This research was conducted to find out what type of sarcasm is used by the main character as well as the context of his speech and how the interlocutor responds to these sarcastic remarks in the film Deadpool. This research can also provide knowledge for researchers to develop in vocabulary teaching.
This research focuses on analyzing the sarcasm sentences in the Deadpool film and the context of the utterances to see whether there are new vocabulary words that can be applied by high school students to improve their vocabulary.

THE STUDENT'S PERCEPTION OF USING CHATGPT FOR LEARNING READING
Qualitative Research
According to Kucer, S.B. as quoted in Pardede, P. (2008), reading is a linear process where the reader deciphers a text word by word, connecting the words into phrases and then sentences.

According to Angelov, Plamen P., et al. (2021), Artificial intelligence (AI) is artificial intelligence that is closely related to machine learning (ML) and logic and forms of symbolic reasoning. In recent years, Machine Learning (ML) and data-focused statistical techniques have experienced rapid growth. This is due to the significant increase in the amount and complexity of data now available, an unprecedented phenomenon. Today, most data is unstructured, with an increase in the amount of images, video, text, and speech compared to the 20th-century era.
The first research from Ali, J. K. M., Shamsan, M. A. A., Hezam, T. A., & Mohammed, A. A. (2023) entitled "Impact of ChatGPT on Learning Motivation: Teachers and Students' Voices". This study investigates how ChatGPT impacts English language learning.
The second research from Shin, D., & Lee, J. H. (2023) with the title "Can ChatGPT make reading comprehension testing items on par with human experts?". This research seeks to test the potential of ChatGPT as a resource for producing L2 assessment materials equivalent to material created by human experts. For this purpose, the researcher extracted five passages and test items in multiple-choice question format from the English section of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) in South Korea.
The third research from de Winter, J. C. (2023) entitled "Can ChatGPT pass high school exams on English language comprehension". In this study, ChatGPT was used to complete a national high school exam in the Netherlands on the topic of English reading comprehension.
This study aims to investigate the impact of using CHATGPT in the context of learning to read English and how it affects students' understanding of the material and their language skills.
The focus of this research is to explore and understand the extent to which the use of CHATGPT can be effective in improving students' English reading abilities.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF UTILIZING QUIPPER SCHOOL ON STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 5 PURWOREJO
Quantitative Research
One of the online learning media used by teachers for reading activities is Quipper School. Mulyono
(2016) mentions that Quipper has been used by millions of teachers and students around the world, including in
the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, England, India, Russia, and Turkey. In addition, Manggiasih
(2016) stated that Quipper School is a free online learning habit where teachers can manage online classes that
allow teachers to track the progress of their students. The motivation of teachers to use Quipper School is
because it is considered effective and efficient. Teachers simply create and distribute content, and students can
access and answer questions directly based on the material provided by the teacher. Quipper School can also
analyze the entire set of questions given to students. Then it can be determined which questions are the most
difficult that the students cannot answer.
A study was conducted by Mardiah, et al. (2018). The result of the study showed that
there was an improvement in students’ reading comprehension as displayed in the increase of the gain score by
deducting the mean score of the pre-test from the mean score of post-tests.
Second, a study conducted by
Sasmita (2020). The result of the study showed that most of the students were interested in Quipper School as a
medium of learning in the class.
Third, a study conducted by Aulyana (2017). The result of the study showed
that most of the students agreed that Quipper School assisted them in learning English, especially reading and
listening skills.
Quipper can be used to stimulate and motivate
students in reading descriptive text. Quipper is suitable medium in teaching reading,
especially descriptive text.
This research would be useful to provide idea
to English teacher to give a teaching reading descriptive text as
one of the teaching strategies that could be used and for students
of tenth grades to develop the reading ability of descriptive text by
using Quipper. The researcher also hopes it would be useful for
students to avoid the difficulties or writer’s block during leaning
reading.
Lack of student awareness of online learning, this problem arises because students have the wrong perception of online learning. They
think online learning is informal so they are lazy about doing assignments, then they submit assignments after~the deadline, and they don't even follow online learning according to schedule.
Meanwhile, several problems come from teachers whose opinions are regarding online English teaching are as follows: Teachers' difficulties in creating materials. In online teaching, many teachers have difficulty creating materials because teachers only apply low-tech applications. This research uses a structured learning platform so that it is hoped that teachers will find it easy to give assignments and students will also find it easy to submit assignments via this Quipper platform.

ANALYSIS OF GENDER STEREOTYPE OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN BRAVE MOVIE AND ITS APPLICATION IN TEACHING WRITING
Qualitative Research
According to Branon (2016) gender stereotypes can be defined as beliefs about characteristics associated with, and the activities appropriate to, men or women.
Movie was the only area, which depicts the people, though they were of any class (poor, middle & rich) along with the predicament and happiness. Such depiction makes literatures look more realistic and touchy. According to Ramrao (2016) Movie also capture the same like literature but due to its visual and sound effect, it got wide popularity.

The definition writing are variously stated by some experts. According to Harmer (2004:4) writing is sequence of letters, words, or symbols marked on a surface. Brown, (2001: 336)also claimed that writing is a thinking process. Moreover, Nunan (2003: 88) states that writing is the mental work of inverting ideas, thinking how to express them, organizing them into statement and paragraphs that will be clear to a reader.
The first previous study is written by Yogi Zanualdy Ramadhan entitled “Gender stereotypes in Moana (2016): A film analysis of the main character”. This research aims to analyze how the main character in Moana (2016) is portrayed and seeks to answer whether the portrayal conform to or goes against gender stereotypes.
The second study is written by Tri Winarsih, Surya Sili, Setya Ariani entitled “GENDER STEREOTYPES CHANGES OF MERIDA’S CHARACTER IN DISNEY MOVIE BRAVE”. This study aims to examine the process of Merida’s gender stereotypes changes by using the theory of Feminist Identity Development.
The third sudy is written by Ari Permita Sari entitled “THE EFFECTIVENESS OF “BRAVE” ANIMATION FILM IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT”. This study aims to find out how effective the use of brave film in teaching writing.
This research is to find the role or characteristics of the main character in the film Brave where there must be gender equality between men and women. This research can also provide knowled.ge for researchers to develop into teaching writing.
This research not only focused on gender stereotype analysis but also focused on writing teaching skills.

Syarif, Fitrawati, 2016, THE USE OF HALF A CROSSWORD PUZZLE IN TEACHING VOCABULARY TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS, To play this game, group A gives a clue about a word to group B, and then group B tries to guess the clue given by group A. The group that can fill all the blank part correctly will be the
winner. This game eases the students in mastering vocabularies related to job and people in English. It could also increase the students‟ motivation because this game is interesting and fun.
Researchers want to know whether puzzle media can improve students' vocabulary.
This research only focuses on grade 3 elementary school so I am interested in researching this title.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING MINIMAL PAIRS GAME IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION SKILL AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 8 PURWOREJO
Quantitative Research
Minimal Pairs are word pairs that have one different pronunciation sound. The two sounds of the Minimal pair have different phoneme units Wahyuni, Y., & Indraswari, T. I. (2022). As an example, in the pair of words /f/ and /v/ in fan and van, or the /e/ and /ɪ/ in desk and disk. According to Reid, E. (2016), In practicing minimal pair drills, learners should first differentiate, then recognize the sounds and finally to imitate the minimal pairs with correct sounds.
The first previous study is written by Marpaung, I. D. M., et al. (2023) entitle “Student's Perspective: Using Minimal Pairs Technique To Improve Pronunciation”. This study aims to determine student perceptions of the use of minimal pairs technique in class. This research is qualitative research using questionnaires and interviews that ask students' perceptions about the use of minimal pairs technique in class. The results of this study indicate that most students have positive perceptions of using the minimal pairs technique in improving their pronunciation skills. Then they argue that their pronunciation skills improve after using the minimal pairs technique.
The second previous study is written by Altamimi, A. K. (2015) entitle “IMPROVING ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION AMONG ARABIC EFL SCHOOL-AGE STUDENTS USING MINIMAL PAIRS”. This study investigated whether the use of the minimal pairs’ strategy improves English pronunciation of unfamiliar consonant sounds for native Arab student in a 2nd intermediate grade in Saudi Arabia. The type of research used in this study was action research which was designed to enhance teaching in the classroom. The findings revealed that teaching strategy, minimal pairs, is effective in improving the pronunciation of the 2nd intermediate grade Arab speakers.
The third previous study is written by Dewi, D. C., & Astriyanti, D. (2021) entitle “AN ANALYSIS OF USING MINIMAL PAIRS IN PRONOUNCING CONSONANTS AND VOWELS” This research aimed to describe pronunciation error and correct pronunciation in English consonants and vowels by the participants on Phonology subject. The data were from the fourth semester students of English education study program. This research applied a descriptive study with qualitative approach. The research finding were analyzed how many of them who made error in pronouncing the minimal pairs words. For the result of this research, it shows that the dominant pronunciation errors made by the fourth students semester was in English consonant sounds /s/ and /z/
Minimal pairs make it easier for students to pronounce words with almost the same sound but different and games can serve as effective instruments for instructing children on pronunciation, particularly in the context of minimal pairs. In previous research, the minimal pairs technique was used and previous studies have not implemented game-based with innovative design elements, such as the use of the latest technology, animation or interesting games minimal pairs in their research.
This research will try to examine gaps that have not been implemented in previous study, by using a minimum pairs game as the variable x and this research will use quantitative methods.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF INDONESIAN AND THAI STUDENTS IN SPEAKING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN TERMS OF THEIR PRONUNCIATION
Quantitative Research
According to the Britannica Encyclopedia, pronunciation is a way of speaking in which segmental phonemes, or speech sounds, which serve as the foundational symbols of language, occur and are ordered in a manner based on pitch, loudness, and length. Things that influence good pronunciation skills are explained by Pulatovna A. Sayyora (2022). Here are the things that affects the correct pronunciation.
1) Articulation
2) Intonation
3) Correct pronunciation of vowels and consonant
The first previous study is written by Muna Z. Sofa (2015) entitled "The Differences between Thai and Indonesian Undergraduates in Pronouncing Plural Nouns and Third Singular Present Verbs due to Progressive Assimilation". The aim of this research are to find out the differences and similarities between Thai and Indonesian undergraduates in pronouncing plural nouns and third singular present verbs and the factors that influence it. The design of this research is case study by investigating Thai and Indonesian undergraduates of IAIN Salatiga in several period of time. From the analysis, it is found that the differences and similarities of Thai and Indonesian undergraduates are substitution and omission of s/es suffix pronunciation.
The second previous study is written by Leila Kääntä (2017) entitled "In search of proper pronunciation: Students’ Practices of Soliciting Help during Read-aloud". This article examines Finnish L2 learners’ interactional practices of flagging trouble in pronouncing words when reading aloud texts in English. Using conversation analysis, it describes how students employ three repair initiation techniques – direct requests, trying out, and aborting the reading – as methods. The findings not only have local relevance to teachers’ pedagogical training in Finland, but also more broadly in showing L2 teachers how classroom activities can be organized to promote practicing of pronunciation skills.
The second previous study is written by Setiawan R. Beni (2016) entitled "VARIETIES OF ENGLISH CONSONANTS PRONUNCIATION AMONG ENGLISH UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS". This research involved Thailand and Indonesia which is a multilingual country and has 749 dialects thoroughly. As the result, the
researcher found varieties of English consonants pronunciation uttered by four dialects. Thai has difficulties in pronouncing allophones /z/, /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/, /v/, /tʃ/, /b/, /dʒ/, /d/, /l/, /t/, /s/, /k/, /b/. Thai-Malay had difficulties in pronouncing allophones /z/, /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/, /v/, /tʃ/, /b/, /dʒ/, /k/, /s/. Meanwhile, Javanese had difficulties in pronouncing /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/, /v/, /tʃ/, /z/, /dʒ/, /k/, /w/, /g/. Sundanese had difficulties in pronouncing allophones /ð/, /v/, /tʃ/, /θ/, /p/, /ʃ/, /f/, /s/. Furthermore, Thai student had the highest varieties of pronouncing English consonants. Otherwise, Sundanese was the lowest one.
This research topic was selected by the author based on the personal experiences of the author, who participated in a KKN and an international internship program at the Vutthisatwitthayanusorn School on Koh Lanta, Krabi, Thailand. The authors observed a number of challenges faced by Thai students who were studying English, in particular in the subject of pronunciation. Taking aside the fact that English is a second language in Thailand, a country that matches this trait with Indonesia, the author is interested in comparing how high school students from Thailand and Indonesia pronounce English words.
From the 3 previous studies that author have found, all three studies used qualitative methods in researching this topic. In this research, the author will use quantitative methods with data collection techniques that are also different from previous studies in comparing the pronunciation abilities of students from 2 countries.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING DISCOVERY LEARNING IN TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA N 5 PURWOREJO
Quantitative Research
Based on Kemendikbud, the definition of discovery learning is a learning theory which is defined as a learning process that occurs when students are not presented with lessons in their final form, but are expected to be able to organize their own learning. According to Yanti K. Lase (2022), Discovery Learning refers to various learning design models that engage students in learning through discovery. Discovery learning first provides students with structured experiences so that they can discover definitions, concepts and structures of material. One of the advantages of the Discovery Learning Strategy is that it makes students active in participating in the learning process. However, in the phenomenon that occurs, students are less active in the learning process. Method definitions are provided to increase understanding (Yasminar Amaerita, 2023), the Discovery Learning method provides more opportunities for students to become active learners and creative writers. This is related to teaching activities where students are encouraged to discover new knowledge that they have never known through several learning steps: observing, thinking, asking, and finally discovering that knowledge.
The first previous study is written by Ringgi C. Prawerti (2014) entitled “THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING DISCOVERY LEARNING METHOD IN TEACHING WRITING SKILL VIEWED FROM THE STUDENTS’ CREATIVITY”. The aim of the research is to reveal whether: (1) Discovery Learning Method is more effective than Direct Method to teach writing to the tenth grade; (2) The students who have high creativity have better writing skill than those who have low creativity of the tenth grade of that school; (3) there is an interaction between teaching method and creativity to teach writing to the tenth grade that school. The data was collected by using test.
The second previous study is written by Eli Krisnawati (2015) entitled “THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHING WRITING USING DISCOVERY LEARNING TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMPN 1 GROGOL IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015”. The research design applied in this research is qualitative and the technique of this research is case study. To get the data, the researcher used three instruments. They are observation, interview and documentation. As the result, the researcher conclude that in teaching learning process the teacher implemented the discovery learning did not perfect, there were some steps that did not apply.
The third previous study is written by Ariyana, Enawar, Ramadhani S. Intan, Agus (2020) entitled “THE APPLICATION OF DISCOVERY LEARNING MODELS IN LEARNING TO WRITE DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS”. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of discovery learning models in learning to write descriptive texts. The research method uses descriptive methods. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, test writing descriptive text, and documentation. Data analysis techniques by reducing data, data presentation, data interpretation, conclusions. The results showed that the steps of the discovery learning model in learning to write descriptive texts are to describe topics, ask questions, formulate hypotheses, carry out investigations, conduct observations, organize or analyze, and present the results of investigations.
Due to the problems often experienced by students who are less active in learning, the author is interested in implementing the Discovery Learning Strategy. Is this learning strategy effective in increasing students' interest in learning and requiring them to be more active in the learning process? How the results of the Discovery Learning strategy can help students strengthen understanding and memory and make students more active. Therefore, this research is a challenge for the author to conduct experiments with the Discovery Learning model which is used as an alternative for learning to write descriptive text.
From the 3 previous studies used as references, this research will focus on the effectiveness of discovery learning strategies in teaching students to write descriptive texts. The method used in this research uses descriptive methods. Regarding the design used in this research, it is experimental with two variables, namely the independent variable and the dependent variable. The Independent variable in this research is learning English to write descriptive texts using either the discovery learning model or the conventional learning model. The author explores the influence of background on descriptive writing skills and assesses how adapting the discovery learning method can improve students' ability to write descriptive texts effectively by comparing the effectiveness of discovery learning with traditional teaching methods for writing descriptive texts.

Quantitative Research
According to Mansur (2019) vocabulary is an important element in
language learning to make it easier for students to master 4 English skills reading,
writing, speaking and vocabulary. Vocabulary is a basic of learning English, without vocabulary students
cannot understand and express their self in English (Trifonov, 2011). Online medium is very attached to daily life. Using online in this current
era is the right thing to do because is very easy to get information
(Aprilianti, 2020). Cake app is one of the most popular English learning applications. Not
only learn to use dialogue, the advantage of this application is that there
are short videos divided into several categories (Syalwa, 2020).
Written by NUR FAJRIYANI HIKMAH HASYIM
thesis (2022) entitled "THE USE OF CAKE APPLICATION TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S
LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT THE FIRST GRADE OF
SMK MUHAMMADIYAH PAREPARE
". The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the
student's listening comprehension. it was indicated by the student’s mean score of
post-test (7,00) was greater than pre-test (37,4). Thus, it can be
concluded that the students’ reading comprehension is significant better after getting the treatment.
Written by Kiki Wahyuni & Mainar Fitri (2023) entitled "The Influence of Cake Learning Application on Students' Speaking Ability". The results of data analyzed showed that the mean score of students after being taught by using the Cake Learning Application (78.24) was higher than before being taught by using the Cake Learning Application (57.64). ENHANCING FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY AT SD MUHAMMADIYAH PURWODADI THROUGH MOBILE LEARNING APPLICATION
Quantitative Research
According to Hidayat and Utomo (2014), Mobile learning can be defined as a service that gives general information electronically to the learner. They can provide the educational content which helps the achievement of knowledge without question the location and time. The terms mobile learning (m-learning) also referred to the usage of handheld and mobile IT devices in tuition and learning. According to UNESCO (2013), the tools that enables mobile learning and teaching are ‘mobile phones, tablet computers, e-readers, portable audio players and handheld gaming consoles’ Netbooks and laptops can also be added to this category. The limitation of the mobile learning application the researcher uses in this paper is the BBC Learning Application.
The first related research conducted by Yasminnabila Hanyfatunia (2022) entitled “THE USE OF BBC LEARNING ENGLISH WEBSITE IN AN EFL CLASS: A NARRATIVE INQUIRY”. This study aims to determine the strenghts and weakness of BBC Learning from students’ point of view. This study used narrative inquiry design with qualitative approach, and used purposive sampling to obtained samples from the populations. The research data was obtained from class observation, questinnaire, and interview. The results of this study show that, the strenght of BBC Learning English Website more dominant than the weaknesses. BBC Learning English Website can simulate students’ feelings, thoughts, and encourages learning, On the other hand BBC Learning English Website has confusing features.
The second related research conducted by Hasan Seitan Khashan and Ali Farhan Abuseileek (2023) entitled “THE EFFECT OF USING BRITISH COUNCIL BBC LEARNING ENGLISH APPLICATION ON THE TENTH GRADE EFL STUDENTS' LISTENING AND SPEAKING SKILLS AND THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARD IT”. As cited in the title, this study aimed to investigate the effect of using BBC Learning English Application on developing 10th grade students' listening and speaking skills and their attitudes toward it. The participants of the study consisted of 46 students from the 10th grade students studying at Al-Mashari Secondary School for Boys at the Northern Valley Directorate of Education. The quasi-experimental design including pre-post-test was used in the study, and the questionnaire was also applied to the experimental group. Statistical treatment was carried out. The findings revealed that most students' responses were "strongly agree" and "agree". This indicated that using BBC Learning English Application had positive impact on students' attitude.
The third related research conducted by Aprilia Mesa and Hermayawati (2021) entitled “STUDENT’S PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS BBC LEARNING ENGLISH APPLICATION AS SUPPORTING MEDIA TO COMPREHEND READING TEXT”. This research aimed to find out the students' perception towards BBC learning English application as supporting media to comprehend reading texts in the System Information (SI) Department at a private university in Yogyakarta. By using a descriptive quantitative approach, this research made use of questionnaire to collect the data with thirty-five (35) students participating. The results revealed that 100% of students think that students can learn anytime and anywhere with BBC Learning English. 100% of students think that BBC Learning English can improve students' reading ability.
Despite the proliferation of digital educational resources and the potential benefits of utilizing mobile applications like BBC Learning English to enhance reading ability, there is a lack of specific research focusing on the effectiveness of this application in improving the reading skills of fifth-grade students in SD Muhammadiyah Purwodadi or similar educational settings. Existing research tends to generalize outcomes across various age groups or educational contexts, overlooking the unique needs, challenges, and effectiveness of the BBC Learning English application specifically tailored for fifth-grade students in a specific school environment.
This research aims to fill a gap in the literature by providing a targeted investigation into the effectiveness of using the BBC Learning English application to enhance reading skills in this particular demographic and school setting. By assessing the unique impact of the application on fifth-grade students, including aspects of engagement, comprehension, and overall educational benefit, this research will contribute valuable insights to the field of educational technology and pedagogy. It offers a tailored perspective, emphasizing the need to consider the specific needs and requirements of this age group, ultimately guiding educators and stakeholders in optimizing the application's integration for better reading outcomes.
